Carlos Gaspar Hernandez

Carlos Gaspar Hernandez, 69, of Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Carlos was born on September 13, 1952, in Loving, New Mexico to Ernesto and Concepcion “Chonita” Hernandez.

Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Following the vigil will start at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, October 1, 2021, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow at the Loving Cemetery in Loving, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Albert Gonzalez, Aurelio “Tanners” Murrillo, Jerry Carrasco, Larry Aguilar, Richard Carrasco, and Sam Martinez.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and a great friend. He was the type of person that was always willing to give the shirt off his back. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and cherished the time spent with family and grandchildren. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and had the opportunity to attend several of their football games.

In 1972, he was drafted into the Army. While serving his time, he traveled to places such as New Jersey, Italy, and Greece. In 1972, along with two other military members, he was chosen to escort Mrs. Universe in Athens, Greece. It was a once in a lifetime moment that he continued to share until this day.

He worked as a parts manager for over 25 years at Phil Carrell, Ross Hyden, O’Neal Motors, Desert Sun Motors, and Ford Town. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Carlos was preceded in death by his parents; Ernesto and Concepcion “Chonita” Gaspar Hernandez.

He is survived by his wife Frances Carrasco Hernandez of Carlsbad, NM; sons, Anthony Hernandez and Cruz Carlos Hernandez of Carlsbad, NM; daughters, Sheree Michelle Hernandez of Lubbock, TX; Veronica Hernandez and Crystal Hernandez (Joe Gonzalez) of Carlsbad, NM; brothers, Victor G. Hernandez and Raul G. Hernandez (Regina); sister Mary G. Hernandez; Twelve grandchildren; Six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
