Zyl Mahaffey

Zyl Mahaffey, 90, of N. Olive Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, March 31, 2016, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Zyl Mahaffey was born May 6, 1925 in Madador, Texas to William Edwin and Mary Lucy (Pritchett) Mahaffey. She grew up in Portales and moved to Carlsbad with her parents while in high school, graduating from Carlsbad High School in 1943. Zyl worked at St. Francis Hospital 12 years and then for the Carpenter's Union over 15 years. Her hobbies included oil painting. Zyl was a member of First Baptist Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lucy Mahaffey; brothers: Wilton, Marvin, Robert, Fred, Oran and Thomas Mahaffey and sisters: Mable Wallace and Bernice Garner.
