Zelma "Granny" Kirk

Zelma "Granny" Kirk, 86, of Westridge Rd., Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away October 21, 2009 at Landsun Health Services Center. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 26, 2009, 11:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Paster Michael Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Zelma "Granny" Kirk was born July 26, 1923 in Hernshaw, West Virginia to Sylvester and Edna Lulu (Payne) Burdette. She moved to Carlsbad in 1960. Zelma was employed at the North Y Drive Inn many years where she made life long friends. She enjoyed cooking for her family, but most of all loved spending time with them. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Belle Kirk, Janie Burdette, Lily Bennett and Reba Meadows. Survivors are her four children: Jim Kirk and wife, Carla of Payson, AZ, Sandi Speer and husband, Bob of Deming, NM, Judy Calhoun and husband, David of Carlsbad, NM, Steve Kirk and wife, Dee of Carlsbad, NM, nine grandchildren: Misti, Kacee, Jessica, Nathan, Kevin, Eric, Shawna, Craig, and Crystal, 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kevin Speer, Eric Speer, Craig Kirk, Thearon Dominguez, Clinton Crosley and Stacy Stegall.
