Wynola Hicks

WyNola "Wallie" Hicks, 97, of Grant Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Landsun Health Services Center. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, 2016, 10:00 AM, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Land officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. WyNola "Wallie" Hicks was born December 23, 1918 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Alfred Thomas and Clara Lee (McCall) Walker. She graduated from high school in Port, Oklahoma. Wallie attended Southwestern Oklahoma University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, earning a bachelors degree in education. She became a teacher in Monument, Colorado for 2 years and then in Hagerman, NM for 4 years. Wallie then went to work at IMC Potash to become secretary to the research director for 5 years. She met and married Harvey Hicks in 1950, raising 2 children. Wallie was a member of SENM Historical Society, Green Thumb Garden Club, M.A.G.I.C., WMU and served as treasurer of WMU. She was also a member of two bridge clubs and the First Baptist Church. Her hobbies included playing bridge, oil painting, knitting and crocheting, reading, traveling and sewing. Wallie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey R. Hicks; brothers: D.F. Walker, James Walker; sisters: Pauline Banks and Juanita Bourns. Survivors are her son, Harvey Hicks, Jr. and wife, Carol of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Cheryl Beck and husband, Gary of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Jordan Hicks, Courtney Beck; sisters: Doris Casey, Clara Fite and Nora Casey and numerous nieces and nephews.
