Wilma Jean Magby

Wilma Jean Magby, 83, of North Happy Valley Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away December 7, 2012 at University Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 12, 2012, 10:00 AM, at First Christian Church with Rev. David W. Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Wilma Jean Magby was born June 24, 1929 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to John Robert and Grace Eleanor (Forehand) Smith. She graduated from high school in 1947. Wilma was a rural mail carrier for over 20 years in the Carlsbad area. She enjoyed the mountains. Wilma loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed her constant companion, Prissy, her dog. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Leroy" Magby on November 24, 2007; sons: Steve Magby, Dennis Magby; grandson, Shawn Phillips; sisters: Lois Edwards, Ella Lou Adkins; brothers: Edgar Smith and David Smith. Survivors are two daughters: Nida Ballard and husband, Frank of Malaga, NM, Melba Phillips and husband, Tommy of Carlsbad, NM; six grandchildren: Shanna Phillips, Raeleen Reed, Wayland Magby, Daniel Magby, Tim Ballard, Andy Magby; four great-grandchildren: Daneigh Lauhoff, Sam Ballard, Autumn Magby, Aubrey Magby; two sisters: Elsie "Tootie" Groves of Carlsbad, NM, Gracie Mathews and husband, Ron of Carlsbad, NM; two brothers: Harold "Buddy" Smith and wife, Wanda of Ohio and Russell Smith and wife, Mae of Florida. Pallbearers will be Shanna Phillips, Raeleen Reed, Wayland Magby, Daniel Magby, Tim Ballard and Andy Magby.
