Wilma "Bill" Mass Higgins

Wilma "Bill" M. Higgins, 89, of W. Cherry Ln, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away May 11, 2012 at Good Life, in Carlsbad, N.M. Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 11:00 AM, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Merkel, Texas. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Bill married Henry "Sy" Wilson Higgins December 12, 1940 in Merkel, Texas. Bill worked hard through her life. She worked for Montgomery Wards, Dr. King as a dental assistant and Big State Auto and didn't retire until the age of 82. Bill was very independent and had a passionate love for her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed bowling with her husband on the couples league. Bill moved to Carlsbad several years ago when her health began to decline. The family would like to thank the staff at Good Life and Lakeview Christian Home Hospice for their loving care. She was preceded in death by her father, Martin Mass; mother, Elda Hord; stepfather, Robert Henry Hord; husband, Henry "Sy" Wilson Higgins; son, Jerry Lynn Higgins; and brother, H. B. Mass. Survivors are her sons: Robert Jess Higgins and wife, Melanie of Malaga, N.M.; Byron Del Higgins of Dublin, Texas; David Ray Higgins of Merkel, Texas; grandchildren: Tami Lynn Higgins, Tara Sue Spearman and husband, Damon, Heather Higgins, Steven Weyd Hawkins, Jayson William Hawkins and wife, Jamie; five great grandchildren and extended family; Jil Higgins and Anetia Frazier.
