William "Bill" B. Mackie

William "Bill" B. Mackie, LCDR, USN (RET) 76, of Carlsbad New Mexico passed away March 29, 2019, at University Hospital in El Paso, TX. He was born November 7, 1942, in New Rochelle, New York, the oldest son of the late Joseph and Gladys Mackie.

 

Bill retired in 1990 with 30 years of active duty service with the United State Navy. He worked in several areas around the state of New Mexico before settling in Carlsbad. In 2006, he joined the US. Department of Energy as Institutional Affairs Manager. He retired in December 2017 as Director of the Office of Business.  He was an avid traveler — lifetime member of the Good Sam’s Club and National VFW member. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage and loved Celtic music.

 

Bill is survived by his wife, Marge of 53 years; his daughter Mary Lou (Raven) of Estancia, NM; his daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Bill Stoneberger of Stover, MO.; Three grandchildren Tyler and Brenda Smith of Stewartsville, MN; Connor and Megan Smith of Middleton, ID; Alexandra and John Clouse of Friend, NE; and Three great-grandchildren Roran, Felix and Ryland; brother, Jeff and Sandy Mackie of Paoli, PA.

 

The Family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of Carlsbad Medical Center as well as the University Hospital in El Paso for the care of Bill.
