William N. "Bill" Stanley, 85, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at his home in Carlsbad, NM.
There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Chaplain Terry McKean of Lakeview Hospice officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
William N. "Bill" Stanley was born in Dallas, TX, to Juanita and William Nall Stanley on November 20, 1928. He attended West Point Military Academy for 2 years and then graduated from Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, IN with a Chemical Engineering B.S. degree.
Bill moved to Carlsbad, NM, in 1952 to work at International Minerals & Chemicals Corp (IMC - now Mosaic) until 1965. In 1959, he married Evelyn Perini, his wife of 54 years. He worked at Kermac (now Intrepid Potash) in Hobbs, NM, 1965-67, Ref-Chem Consulting in Odessa, TX, 1967-1969, American Magnesium in Snyder, TX, 1969-1971, and Teledyne (now Intrepid Potash) in Carlsbad, NM, 1971-1973. In 1973 he started a consulting business and had clients in Jordan, Chile, China, California, Utah, Florida, and Washington, D.C. He and Evelyn lived in the country of Jordan for 18 years and traveled extensively overseas.
Bill was a private pilot and an accomplished classical guitarist. He played trumpet in high school and harmonica in his later years. His interests also included tennis, fishing, water skiing, big band music, fitness workouts, and pets.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn in February 2013.
Survivors are his sister Norma Mathis; four daughters, Barbara Stanley, Regina Mickelson, Joni Clark, and Lisa Stanley; four grandchildren Chaise Cranston, Eric Mickelson, April Timbs, and Chance Clark; six great-grandchildren; and his dog Ginger.
