William “Bill” Joe, 92, of Chico Street, Carlsbad, NM passed away at Lakeview Christian Home on December 20, 2024.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, December 30, 2024 at Carlsbad Cemetery. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Bill was born August 13, 1932 to Frank and Adele Joe in Alexandria, Nebraska, where he lived until enlisting in the Air Force. Bill served overseas in the Air Force during the Korean War.
In 1955, Bill married Willine Miller of Carlsbad and they raised three children. They lived in Carlsbad until 1960 and then moved to Las Cruces, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from New Mexico State University. He then embarked on a career as a design and testing engineer, working for Allis-Chalmers, Fiat-Allis, Steiger, and retiring from Case IH. Bill’s career took his family to Mesa, AZ, Chatham, IL and Fargo, ND. Bill and Willine retired in 2000 to Carlsbad where they had met. After losing Willine to cancer, Bill met Jane Robb of Carlsbad and they were married in 2009.
Bill was a devoted Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Carlsbad. He loved sports, singing and playing Country & Western music on his guitar, square dancing with friends, fishing, hunting and spending time at the family’s lake home in Minnesota.
Bill was preceded in death by Willine, his wife of 51 years, Jane, his wife of 13 years, a granddaughter, Danica Overmoe, his parents, four brothers and five sisters.
Bill is survived by a sister, Audrey Joe of Aurora, CO; three children: Debra Carruthers of Eagle, ID, Gary Joe and wife, Karen, of Chatham, IL, and Deana Overmoe and husband, David, of Hawley, MN; six grandchildren: Lyndee Joe, Bill Joe, Ryan (Kelli) Joe, Michael Carruthers, Samuel Overmoe, and Sarah Overmoe; two great-granddaughters: Cora Joe and Willa Joe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
