William Harold Atkinson

William Harold Atkinson, 95, of East Vine Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Lakeview Christian Home. A private graveside service was held at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. Denton-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. William Harold Atkinson was born on August 19, 1917, in Stamps, Arkansas, to Dick and Mattie (Mouser) Atkinson. He graduated from Minden High School in Minden, LA. Harold served his country in the US Army, serving in the 36th Division Battery A, 131 Field Artillery in Africa, Italy, France, Germany and Austria during WWII. He married Dorothy Milam August 2, 1948 in Roswell, NM. Harold went to work for P.C.A. in September 1946 and retired after 36 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sue Sledge and Maurine Wiggins; brother, Horace Atkinson. Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Atkinson; daughters: Carolyn Vest and Mary Jane Patterson and husband, Don; grandchild, Devon Clinton; sister, Norma Jean Trice; and numerous nieces and nephews.
