Weldon "Webb" Johnson, 82, of Pecos River Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Monday, January 9, 2012 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, January 10, 2012, 10:30 AM, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating. Interment will be in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Weldon "Webb" Johnson was born August 11, 1929 in Iraan, Texas to Leroy and Lena (Hardee) Johnson. He graduated from high school at Point Loma High School in San Diego, California. Webb moved to Carlsbad after WWII to be close to family. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a mountain ski trooper in Austria. After returning, Webb went to work at Carlsbad Body Works where he ultimately worked over 20 years. He married Monna McCormick on June 5, 1965 here in Carlsbad. In the early 1970's, Webb became a partner in Basham and Johnson School Bus Company. He took great pride in driving kids all over the state until his retirement in 1995. Webb was a long time member of First United Methodist Church. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. Webb passed his love of hunting, fishing and camping to his five grandsons. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Webb was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Theron Johnson. Survivors are his wife, Monna Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; two sons: Jimmy Johnson and wife, Diane of Carlsbad, NM, Kelly Johnson and wife, Cindi of Carlsbad, NM; five grandchildren: Kevin, Luke, Dane, Ethan and Josh and numerous cousins and extended family. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Mission Carlsbad Fund, 207 N. Halagueno St. Carlsbad, NM 88220. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
