Wayne Wentworth, 53, of Spyglass Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, January 1, 2016 at his home. There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, January 7, 2016, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dennis W. McKinley officiating.Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Wayne Wentworth was born February 20, 1962 in Vernon, Connecticut to James Allan and Anita Pearl (Sirois) Wentworth. He graduated from East Hampton High School, East Hampton, CT in 1980. In 1984, Wayne received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. Wayne married Diane Cauley Landry in August of 1994 in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Shortly afterward, they moved to the Southwest where they spent the next 21 years calling New Mexico and Nevada their home; even as Wayne's work called for many assignments across the country. Most recently, he worked as Contractor Assurance Manager for Nuclear Waste Partnership, LLC at the WIPP Site. Wayne had 30 years of experience in fossil and nuclear power operations, engineering support, nuclear fabrication, waste operations, quality assurance, human performance and performance assurance. Prior to joining WIPP, he provided both project management and senior management support to various Department of Energy facilities, including Los Alamos National Laboratory, Savannah River Site, Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory Separations Process Research Unit, Hanford and the MOX Fuel Fabrication Facility. Prior to his work in the government sector, Wayne provided corporate and nuclear facility oversight for Yankee Nuclear Services Division and Duke Engineering and Services, with a focus on the Rowe, Vermont Yankee, Maine -Yankee and Seabrook nuclear power plants. Wayne was a classic car enthusiast and especially loved restoring his old Corvettes. He also enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as kayaking, hiking and metal detecting. He loved his rescue cats, Oliver and Thomas who he called his "boys". He especially adored his grandsons, Jax and Josh. Survivors are his wife, Diane Wentworth of Carlsbad, NM; son, Jason Landry and wife, Wendy of Fitchburg, Massachusetts; grandchildren: Jackson Landry and Joshua Landry; parents: Jim and Anita Wentworth of Cornville, Maine; sister, Dr. Wendy Morre and husband, Keith of Christianburg, VA and his aunt, Norma Greenleaf of Staunton, VA. Wayne was preceded in death by his sister, Jamie Wentworth. Honorary pallbearers are Dana Dorr, Jason Landry, Larry Sousa, and Scott Traeger. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
