Wayne Atchley was born and raised in Clovis, NM. After graduation, he joined the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam Conflict as a military police officer for a total of 6 years. Wayne then returned to Clovis after his military service and continued public service by joining the Clovis police force. During his many years as a police officer, he served the communities of Clovis, NM; Pensacola, FL; Texico, NM; Cuba, NM; Fort Sumner, NM (as Chief of Police); and for the last 12 years he served the great community of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Wayne and Kim began their adventure of love together in 2000 and then got married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 12, 2003. He was always looking for any occasion to take Kim for a ride on his motorcycle. That was truly his happy place. Wayne was a devoted husband, a father to his children, and Papaw to his grandchildren. He loved his family with his whole heart. Wayne was a very honorable man who always put his family first. He loved to spend all the quality time in the world with his grandchildren, from motorcycle rides to swimming in the ocean and pool. Wayne loved his community almost as much as he loved his family and lived to serve it each and every day. If you knew Wayne, you also knew he never left the house without his mustache comb. He was non-stop fixing that memorable mustache of his.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Sr. and Billie Atchley, his son Patrick Atchley, and brother Ramond Atchley Jr. He is survived by his wife Kim Atchley; daughter Tabitha (Nathan) Applegate; son Tristian (LeAnna) Longo; daughter Heather Willis; grandchildren: Zoie, Jasper, Jordyn, Kashlynn, Savannah, Tyler, Justin, Cameron, and Riley; sisters-in-law: Raelynn Longo, Twilla (John) Thomas, and Esther Atchley; brothers-in-law: Jason Longo, Alex (Crystal) Longo, and Nathen (Crystal) Longo; father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Monnie Cunningham; as well as nieces and nephews: Chase (Keily) Longo, Chance (Franny) Longo, Jake and Reese Thomas, Jennifer Atchley, Michael Atchley; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
