Wanda McFarland McMinn, 70, of Georgia Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 at her home. Cremation has taken place and a private service will take place at a later date. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Wanda McFarland McMinn was born September 26, 1948 in Lovington, New Mexico, to James Daniel McFarland and Nona Mae (Cox) McFarland and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1967. Wanda married Collie McMinn June 28, 1968 here in Carlsbad. After her four girls were older, she went to work for Eddy County Detention Center as a cook and retired as a lieutenant after many years of service. The detention center was not just a job but rather a place that she often listened and cared for the many inmates that crossed her path as she had a compassionate heart as well as a iron fist. Wanda loved spending time with her family and never turned down the opportunity to be with her grandkids. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Collie McMinn; great granddaughter Lanae Rojas and sister Ruby Wilson and nephew Bo McFarland. Survivors are daughters: Angie McMinn, Kim McMinn, Jolene McMinn and Brandy McMinn; grandchildren: Weston, Taylor, Ari and husband Joel, Paige and husband Cody, Lacie and Lorenzo, B.J., Dylan, Rylee, Everlee, Jax, Rowan, Rayleen, Kayden, Joseph and Nicholas; great- grandchildren; Brooke, Emma, Ryan and Lorenzo, Jr.; twin sister; Linda Brasfield, sister: Kathy Buffington; brothers: Dan McFarland and Mike McFarland and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Crystal Martinez and the staff at Encompass Hospice for the care and love they gave Wanda during this difficult time.
Dont remember me with sadness, dont remember me with tears, remember all the laughter, weve shared throughout the years. Now I am contended that my life it was worthwhile, knowing that I passed along the way I made somebody smile. When you are walking down the street and youve got me on your mind, Im walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. So please dont be unhappy just because Im out of sight, remember that Im with you each morning, noon and night.
