Walter R. Huber left Earth for his heavenly home on February 25, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Walter was born October 27, 1941 to Edwin Carl and Alta Laura Huber in Muleshoe, Texas. The family moved from Muleshoe to Ft Sumner, New Mexico when Walter was six years of age. The family moved to Artesia, New Mexico in 1950. Walter met and married his high school sweetheart, Triva Gayle Jetton.

They celebrated 63 years of marriage. The Lord called Walter into the ministry in 1973 and shortly after, Maljamar Baptist Church called him to serve as pastor. After a two year service in Maljamar, Walter then went on to pastor Cavern Baptist in Carlsbad. In 1976 the family moved to Jacksonville Florida where Walter attended Luther Rice Seminary for 4 years earning a Bachelor of Divinity degree. During this time Walter, pastored North West Baptist Church. In 1980, the family moved back to Carlsbad where Walter once again pastored Cavern Baptist.

From Carlsbad, Walter went on to pastor Gila Valley Baptist Church for 10 years. Then was called to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Portales, New Mexico where he pastored for 11 years. Walter and Gayle then moved back to Carlsbad to enjoy retirement in 2012. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Joe Keith, sister Wilma Lucille, youngest brother Donald Ray and oldest brother James.

He is survived by his wife of the home, daughter Michelle Cary, son Clayton and daughter in law Valerie; brother, John of Artesia, NM and sister, Teresa and brother in law, Walt of Clovis, NM; grandsons, Brent and Blayne Jackson, Hayden and Kamron Huber and 5 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Walter’s life will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Cavern Baptist Church, 110 Russell Street, Carlsbad, NM. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Denton-Wood Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.
