Wallace "Wally" Gaulden, 88, of West Peppertree Circle, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Goodlife Assisted Living. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, September 20, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Graveside Service is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2013, 10:00 AM, at Carlsbad Cemetery with Pastor Randy Land officiating. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Wallace "Wally" Gaulden was born February 4, 1925 in Dallas, Texas to Wallace W. and Beatrice Gaulden. Wally finished high school in Bossier City, Louisiana in 1943. He married Cleola Higdon on August 9, 1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Wally served his country in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Altamaha in the Pacific Theatre. Wally worked for Illinois Central Railroad and later as a printer for the Shreveport Times, Houston Post and Houston Chronicle. Wally and Cleo moved to Carlsbad in 1978 and became co-owners of the Dairy Queen-South with Danny and Carolyn until retiring in 1990. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Wally always enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleola "Cleo" Gaulden. He is survived by his son, Danny Gaulden and wife, Carolyn of Carlsbad, NM; grandaughters: Christina Daily and husband, Ryan of Houston, TX, Camille Gaulden of Carlsbad, NM; great-grandchildren: Kayia Gaulden, Kayden Valenzuela, Colson Daily and Everett Daily.
