Wallace "Cotton" Canion, 86, of Happy Valley, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at his home. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2015, 10:00 AM, at Carlsbad Cemetery with Chaplain Andy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Wallace "Cotton" Canion was born May 18, 1929 in Albuquerque, NM to James L. and Anna (Ballard) Canion. As a baby he moved to Carlsbad and later attended Carlsbad schools. Cotton worked for Penn Drilling Company. He served his country in the U S Army. Cotton met and married Albina Cebry on December 27, 1952. Cotton went to work for PCA in 1955 and retired in 1986. He was also a member of the Elks BPOE, life member of NRA, VFW # 3277 and Sportsman's Club. Cotton was also a member of the Happy Valley Fire Department for 45 years and also served on the Happy Valley Water Coop Board. Cotton's hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, traveling after retirement and being a handyman. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Albina Canion; son, James Canion; brother, Billy E. Canion and sister, Etta Mae Canion. Survivors are his daughter, Debra Ann Jewett of Carlsbad, NM; son, Thomas Canion and wife, Laura of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Josh Jones, Chris Jones, Marcus Jones, Juwana Kinnibrugh, Thomas Johnson, Adam Johnson and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
