W. S. Morris, Jr., 82, of W. Pierce Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away February 24, 2011 at Carlsbad Medical Center. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A Memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, February 27, 2011, 2:30 PM, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Land officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. W. S. Morris, Jr., was born September 19, 1928 to Shelby Morris, Sr., and Grace (Parton) Morris in Sudan, Texas. He graduated from Sudan High School in 1948. W.S. attended college at Texas Tech for 2 years. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. W.S. married Wilda Nichols on August 21, 1952 in Odessa, Texas. They moved to Carlsbad in 1952. W.S. worked for the Carlsbad Current-Argus as a printer for 32 years before retiring in 1990. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. W.S. was also a member of Gideons International and Kiwanis. He enjoyed woodworking and H.O. trains. W.S. was preceded in death by his parents, son W.S. Morris, III, and one niece. Survivors include his wife: Wilda Morris; one daughter: Barbara Walker and husband, Kevin of Ft. Worth, TX; one son; Walter Morris and wife, Emma Fragua of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren: Ryan Walker, Courtney Walker and Jasmine Morris; one great grandson: David Walker and one sister: Wydetta Graham of Oviedo, FL.
