Virginia Pyeatt, 94, passed away Sunday May 12, 2013 at Landsun Homes in Carlsbad, NM. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, May 17, 2013 at Landsun Otto Chapel, 2002 Westridge Road, Carlsbad, NM, with Chaplain Erwin VanEssen officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home, 1001 N. Canal Street, Carlsbad, NM, 575-885-6363, is in charge of the arrangements.
Virginia was born December 14, 1918, in Rifle, Colorado, the fifth child of Clara and Art Van Horn. She married Sam Pyeatt in 1943 and for the first years of their marriage, they raised peaches and apricots in the Rapid Creek area. Their home served for many years as a family gathering place. Virginia is survived by her son, Andrus Brooke Pyeatt of Santa Fe, NM; grandson, Jesse Pyeatt of New York City, NY and numerous relatives and friends.
An avid reader, letter writer, and genealogist, Virginia worked as a proofreader at The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction. She had a column in The Palisade Tribune. She published her columns in a book titled, "The View From Third Base", which Brooke illustrated. She was active in the Christian Church. After Sam died, Virginia moved from Palisade to Landsun Homes in Carlsbad, NM and made many strong friendships.
