Vernon V. Shott, 79, of Grassburr Lane, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Landsun Homes.
There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, 2014, 10:00 AM, at La Huerta Baptist Church with Pastor Steven W. Goings officiating.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Vernon V. Shott was born September 1, 1934 in Algona, Iowa to Vallie and Alberta (Holdren) Shott. He moved to Carlsbad with his parents as a young boy where he attended Carlsbad schools. Vernon helped his father train race horses and spent many summers in Ruidoso at the race tracks. He married Janie Laman July 4, 1960 at the Old Cavern Theater. Vernon was a projectionist here and in Clovis. Later he became a locksmith, working in Gallup and then returned to Carlsbad where he was in business over 40 years. Vernon was an avid bowler, a life member of the New Mexico Locksmith Association and a member of ALOA (Associated Locksmiths of America). He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Marcella Bowers and Wava Jean Arnold.
Survivors are his wife, Janie Shott of Carlsbad, NM; children: Bill Shott and wife, Cynthia Lose of Hobbs, NM, Craig Shott and wife, Tammy Kellett of Myrtle Beach, SC, Michelle Frizell and husband, Frank, Jr. of Carlsbad, NM, Michael Shott and wife, Meagan of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Ross Shott, Mark Shott, Timothy Shott, Shaylyn Warrior, Nicholas Carrasco, Mason Shott; great-granddaughter, McKenzie Rose Shott; sisters: Priscilla Wood, Donna Mae Burleson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Gonzalez, Bill Deringer, Buck Nance and Ernie Mendoza.
