Vergie Rogers Johnson

Vergie Rogers Johnson, 88, of W. Cherry Lane, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away May 10, 2011 at Goodlife Assisted Living. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday, May 13, 2011 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2011, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Vergie Rogers Johnson was born October 7, 1922 in Calloway County, KY to Asher and Bessie (Turnbow) Rogers. She worked as an airplane engine mechanic during WWII at the base in Lubbock, TX. Vergie married L.A. Johnson October 8, 1943 in Seminole, TX. They moved to Carlsbad in 1945. Vergie helped her husband farm for many years. She volunteered with the schools while her children were in school. Vergie taught bible class for many years. She was a member of Sunset Church of Christ. Vergie enjoyed quilting and gardening. She loved sharing her garden with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, L. A. Johnson; four brothers and four sisters. She is survived by three sons: Dale Johnson and wife, Sharon of Otis, NM, Jerry Johnson of Levelland, TX, Mark Johnson and wife, Patti of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Ann Anderson and husband, Kreag of Carlsbad, NM; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters: Helen Johnson of New Orleans, LA, Modell Ashley of Abilene, TX, Verna Gayle Martin of San Angelo, TX, Bessie Lou Landers of Ft. Worth, TX; brother, Howard Rogers of Sweetwater, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be J.C. Cunningham, Travis Crandall, Virgil Smith, Johny Harris, Glenn Wells, and Ron Clem.
