Velta G. Robinson

Velta Gene Robinson, 91, of Tracy Place died Saturday, January 29, 2011, at her home. She was born to Nathan and Della (Gibson) Broadhead in Canton, Oklahoma on November 14, 1919. Gene attended grade school in Taloga, Oklahoma and graduated from High School in Fay, Oklahoma in 1938. She worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas during World War II and attended Bersinion College. Gene and E. Z. Robinson were married at St. James United Methodist Church in Chicago, Illinois on January 30, 1947 where Dr. Robinson was a student at Illinois College of Optometry. After practicing optometry in Albuquerque they opened a practice in Carlsbad in 1949. Gene worked as an optician and receptionist for 20 years in the practice. She and her husband practiced in Gallup, New Mexico for a number of years and returned to Carlsbad 1977 after retiring. Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a past member of numerous civic clubs. Private family services will be held at a later date. She is survived by Dr. Elmer Z. Robinson and several nephews.
