Tomas C. Medina was born on January 7th, 1950, in Carlsbad, NM, to Lucia “Luz” Calanche and Francisco Medina. Tomas left this world on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 surrounded by his loved ones.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel, with a vigil at 6:00 PM, for family and friends wishing to pay their respects. Liturgy Outside the Mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 23, 2025 at San Jose Catholic Church. In accordance with his wishes, Tomas will be cremated, and the burial of ashes will be scheduled for a later date. A reception will follow immediately after the Mass services in the church's food hall.
Tomas is preceded in death by his parents, Lucia “Luz” Calanche and Francisco Medina; his sisters: Julia Melendrez and Connie Mendez; his brother, Juan Medina; ex-spouses: Brenda Medina and Valerie Michelle Medina.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his brother Andy Calanche and wife, Donna; ex-wife, Belia Morales; sons: Clipper Medina and wife, Gloria of Odessa, TX, Justin Medina of Carlsbad, NM; daughters: Stormy Medina and husband, Jeff Acosta, Jordan Medina, Kiely Medina, and Jexi Medina of Carlsbad, NM. He was a proud grandfather to Jayvonn Tomas Medina, Markus Aaron Medina, Christopher Thomas Medina, Joshua Thomas Medina, Sabrina Tyler and husband, Chase Tyler, Alexis Acosta, Kimberly Acosta, Jaimee Aguilar, Jacob Gonzalez; great-grandfather to Isabella Sophia Medina, Jadamia Zabala, and Edward Aguilar Jr; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Tomas honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1975 as an electronics technician. After his service, he briefly worked at the Carlsbad Caverns before dedicating 14 years as a postman at the local post office. For the past 25 years, he made a lasting impact as part of Springtime Cleaning and found his true calling in umpiring softball games for over 30 years across New Mexico. His dedication to sports, particularly softball, was evident in his commitment as an umpire, and he was a familiar face at local Caveman games catching a basketball, or any ball game whenever possible.
Tomas, cherished by friends for his kindness and generosity, was always eager to showcase his dance moves on the floor and always owned the best stereos around. His spirit and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered, touching many hearts leaving behind an enduring legacy.
