Thresia G. Boans

Thresia G. Boans, 63, of Alpha Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away February 23, 2011 at her home. There will be no visitation cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, February 27, 2011, 2:30 PM, at Pecos River Village Conference Center-Carousel House with Pastor Jim Baxley, Thresia's nephew, officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Thresia G. Boans was born November 30, 1947 in Roswell, NM to Pat and Inez (Neal) Baxley. She graduated from Artesia High School in 1966. Thresia married her high school sweetheart April 4, 1965. They moved to Carlsbad in 1976. Thresia owned and operated the Flower Patch for several years. She was very involved with her daughters' school activities and helped in many of their extra curricular activities. Thresia returned to school to peruse her life long dream of becoming a nurse where she graduated Valedictorian of the 1994 class. She worked at Carlsbad Medical Center in the OB Unit for several years but her true calling was when she went to work as a Hospice Nurse for Vista Care. Thresia had a great compassion for taking care of people in the last stages of their life. Last year Thresia had the unique opportunity to serve as nurse for Camp Quality Texas, which is a camp for children with cancer. She loved her grandchildren and took every opportunity to be involved in their lives. Thresia was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and Assistance League of Carlsbad. Her passions were her animals, traveling, cooking, and playing tennis. Survivors include her husband: Jerry L. Boans; two daughters: Dr. Lisa Simmons and husband, Dr. David Simmons of Carlsbad and Dena Quigley and husband, Dr. Curtis Quigley of Waco, TX; three grandchildren: Bowan Simmons, Sadie Simmons and Maxwell Quigley; three sisters: Joyce Hammock of Roswell, NM, Bennie Shaw and husband, Bill of Hagerman, NM and Nancy Baxley of Hagerman, NM; four brothers: Clyde Baxley and wife, Louise of Tucson, AZ, Donald Baxley and wife, Roxie of Rockingham, NC, Montie Baxley and wife, Charlotte of Hobbs, NM and Carl Baxley of wife, Cheryl of Hobbs, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
