Thomas W. "Tommy" Cox, 42, former resident, passed away September 15, 2023 in Albuquerque, NM.  

Tommy was born July 20, 1981 at Carlsbad Medical Center in Carlsbad, NM to Thomas Dalton Cox and Frances Cox. He was a graduate of Carlsbad High School Class of 1999.  Tommy received his Associates Degree in Welding from New Mexico State University Carlsbad in 2001. It was around that time he took an interest in the medical field and in 2005 received his Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic from New Mexico State University. Tommy loved working in the medicine so much he then started working towards his Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Eastern New Mexico University. Tommy did not stop until he became a Nurse Practitioner receiving his Masters of Science in Nursing from Walden University in 2018.

Tommy loved the outdoors. He was always fishing, camping and hunting first with his dad while growing up and then with his own sons. Tommy also enjoyed playing the guitar, rock music was his favorite but also enjoyed making up fun melodies and songs.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Cox; grandparents: Tom and Ruth Hernandez, Thomas Dalton Sr. and Katherine Cox; aunts:  Patsy Grantner and Gloria Hernandez.

He is survived by his sons: Thomas William Cox, Jr., Wade Cox; father, Thomas Dalton Cox, Sr.; sister, Judith Cox and by his cousins that all grew up together like siblings: Tonia Galindo, Miguel Molina, Michelle Trew, Cheyenne Hernandez and Marvin Calderon Jr.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
