Thomas H.(Tom) Rodgers of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation is scheduled from 4-7pm Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 10 am Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Interment Service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 10:30 AM in Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Thomas was born on December 20, 1938 to Harold Thomas and Cynthia Elizabeth (Joyce) Rodgers, near Anadarko, Oklahoma. He attended Gracemont Public Schools and was Salutatorian of his high school class. He attended Oklahoma A&M University, the University of Oklahoma and Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he received both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. Tom was a member of the National Guard prior to joining the Army Reserve where he served for 29 years achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. He received the Meritorious Achievement Medal and numerous Army Achievement and Army Commendation Medals and served his country on active duty during Desert Storm. Tom retired from New Mexico State University of Carlsbad after twenty two years, where he taught primarily Economics and Accounting. Tom enjoyed trap shooting, playing old timers baseball, and the senior Olympics where he won numerous medals. Tom is survived by sons: Thomas Wayne Rodgers of Chicago, IL, Jeremy Lucas Rodgers of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Brodie Rene Rodgers, Dora Ann Rodgers, Thomas Nelson Rodgers, and Jolene Ellen Rodgers; sisters: Mary Elizabeth Hart, Dorothy Jean Elliott and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Tom was a loving father and grandfather. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangments. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
