Theodore "Ted" Wilks

Theodore "Ted" Wilks, 94, of Muscatel, Carlsbad, NM, passed away February 15, 2014 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Vigil is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, 2014, 7:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 2014, 2:00 PM, at St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Cyprian Uline, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Theodore "Ted" Wilks was born May 16, 1919 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Theodore Mike and Wanda (Banderska) Wilks. He served 5 years in the Army Air Force during WWII. Ted married Betty Dillard and she preceded him in death after 65 years of marriage. He later married Sylvia Julia Bonnin in 2011. Ted met Sylvia in 1941 while stationed in Puerto Rico and they reunited in 2010. Ted was a member of the Elks and St. Edward Catholic Church. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell jokes and stories. Ted was a gentle man. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Jo Wilks; brother, Edward Wilks; sisters: Helen Sprecher and Amelia Wirth. Survivors are his wife, Sylvia B. Wilks of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Elizabeth Elaine Pyle of Clovis, NM; stepdaughters: Vivian Bonnin Esteve of California, Victoria M. Bonnin of Puerto Rico; step-sons: Sebastian Bonnin of Puerto Rico, Carlos Bonnin of Puerto Rico; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and sister, Catherine Ferguson.
