Thelma W. Munoz

Thelma W. Munoz, 86, of Irvin Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at her home. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Apio and Thelma will be laid to rest together Monday, January 6, 2014, 11:00 AM, at Carlsbad Cemetery with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Thelma W. Munoz was born May 7, 1927 in Carlsbad, NM to Jackson Lee "Lucky" and Maggie (Sosa) Womack. On December 23, 1950 she married Serapio "Apio" Bustamonte Munoz in Carlsbad, NM. She was a lifelong resident of Carlsbad, NM. She owned and operated Thelma's Record Shop from 1963 to 1991, when she retired. Thelma loved to gamble and go to casinos. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers: George Womack, Frank Womack, James Womack; three sisters: Margaret Stroud, Alice Womack, Lena Martin and Etta (Nena) Hernandez. Survivors are her son, Jim Munoz and wife, Mary Ellen of Carlsbad, NM; two grandchildren: Anna Munoz and husband, Karlos Sachs of Arlington, VA, Christina Munoz and fiance, Brian Barnes of Albuquerque, NM; great-granddaughter, Zion Azul; sister-in-law, Mary Chavez and husband, Daniel of Carlsbad, NM.
