Tammy was born to Louis and Mary Lou Carrasco on February 18, 1970 in Carlsbad, NM. She graduated high school at Carlsbad High and completed a master’s degree in education at College of the Southwest. Tammy married Ronnie P. Ruiz on June 3, 1989. They celebrated their 33rd anniversary Friday and over the course of 33 years they have had many blessings and unforgettable adventures. The most memorable were the years involving countless fishing and camping trips, motor cross with the kids, taking the dirt bikes for a relaxing cruise and spending time with the family outdoors. Cookouts were an essential part of every weekend; gathering the family, talking about their week and how life was going. One of the proudest accomplishments they have are their children, one daughter and three sons - which has grown to three daughters and four sons. Also gained in the family, Tammy was blessed with four wonderful grandchildren.
Tammy spent 24 years molding and shaping countless kids within the school system. Her years in education brought on many roles such as teacher, counselor and most of all a friend the kids could talk to. Tammy would always go above and beyond when it came to her lesson planning to keep the young minds interested. Her favorite subject to teach was science. Being the adrenaline-fueled women she was, science would bring on many opportunities to blow up things in a controlled environment which were by far her favorite days she looked forward too.
In 2014, Tammy was diagnosed with cancer. During the last 8 years she was a fighter and never gave up. Tammy continued to work while still going through treatments and never missed a family event. In 2021, Tammy decided it was time to retire and be a full-time grandma and enjoy her life with her husband, Ronnie. Although she faced many rocky roads, it never stopped her from watching her oldest grandson Mikey play sports, chasing Kain around the backyard and reading books with Ella and Ozzie.
Tammy was preceded in death by her father, Louis Carrasco Sr; brother, Louis Carrasco Jr; father-in-law, Carlos Ruiz and mother-in-law Esther Ruiz.
Tammy is survived by her husband, Ronnie Ruiz; mother, Mary Lou Carrasco and spouse Vernon Manes; children, Esther and Anthony Hernandez, Ronaldo and Jordan Ruiz, Jacob Ruiz, Louis and Monica Ruiz; grandchildren, Mikey Hernandez, Kain Carter Ruiz, Ella Grace Hernandez, Ozzie James Ruiz; siblings, Danny and Nancy Hinojos, Arturo and Rosie Munoz, Carlos Ruiz, Suzy Ruiz, and Saul and Maria Ruiz; best friend Lando and Patsy Carrasco; plus countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pallbeaerers will be Jacob Ruiz, Louie Ruiz, Ronaldo Ruiz, Jr., Anthony Hernandez, Mike Anthony Hernandez, Saulito Ruiz and Orlando Rodriguez.
