Susan Beth Cannon, 54, passed Monday, June 8, 2015 in Lubbock, Texas after an extended illness. Cremation is being handled by Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas. A Memorial Service will be at Denton-Wood Funeral Home, Saturday June 13 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Owen Lofton officiating. Susan was born in Montgomery County Pennsylvania on May 5, 1961 to Jeanne (Lukens) and Charles Eugene Schneider. Susan graduated from Abington High School in 1979. Susan worked for United Engineers & Constructors at the Seabrook Nuclear Station in Seabrook, New Hampshire where she met Val K. Cannon; the couple was married in 1986. Susan and Val made Carlsbad, New Mexico their home in 1991 and raised three children here. Susan was extremely creative and could turn simple materials into impressive projects. She enjoyed volunteer work and helping with feeding the homeless locally. Susan loved the Riverside Elementary School and worked as a volunteer there on a daily basis for over ten years until her health would no longer permit. She was especially proud of the projects she created to support Read Across America. Susan was musically talented. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing with several of the bands that her husband played with. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanne Lukens Schneider. She is survived by her husband, Val Cannon of Carlsbad; her father, Eugene Schneider of Anderson, South Carolina; two daughters: Katelin White and husband, Ian, Lauren Houghton and husband, Josh all of Carlsbad; one son, Stephen Cannon of Carlsbad, grandson, Daniel White of Carlsbad; sister, Amanda Baker of Anderson, South Carolina and brother, Ken Schneider of Novato, California. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the Palliative Medicine Unit at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock for their care and support. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
