Sterling McGonagill

Sterling McGonagill, 58, of Standpipe Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at his home. There will be no visitation. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Brian McGonagill officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Sterling McGonagill was born October 30, 1957 in Carlsbad, NM. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1975. Sterling was a crane operator for many years with several companies and currently with Madron Services Inc. He loved hunting, especially bow hunting and hunting arrowheads. Sterling was never seen without his companion, Bud, by his side. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, affectionately known as Gramps. Sterling was preceded in death by his father, George E. McGonagill, Jr. and mother, Helen Buster. Survivors are his mother, Madeline McGonagill of Carlsbad, NM; daughters: Cassie Florez and husband, Jarod of Carlsbad, NM, Callie Valentine and husband, Michael of Tuleta, Texas; grandchildren: Brandon and Braden Florez, Rylee, Reighan and Ramzie Valentine; beloved dog, Bud; siblings: Judy Bowman and husband, Mike of Hurst, Texas, Charla Grice and husband, Johnny of Carlsbad, NM, Shane McGonagill of Carlsbad, NM, Brenda Jolly and husband, Barry of Carlsbad, NM and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Michael Valentine, Jarod Florez, Kent Wright, David Smedley, Terry Wilson, Randy Wilson and Brad Grice. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
