Stella Propps McWhorter

Stella Propps McWhorter, 80, of Socorro Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away September 19, 2015 at her home. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, 2015, 10:00 AM, at St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Pasala Hruday Kumar officiating. Cremation will take place after the service. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Stella Propps McWhorter was born November 6, 1934 in Springerville, AZ to Daniel Romero and Susie (Diaz) Lopez. She attended school in Gallup, NM. Stella married Richard Propps in 1954 in Las Vegas, NV. After Richard's death in 1967, she married Samuel McWhorter on August 2, 1968 in Gallup which combined their large families. Throughout their life together, they owned and operated several businesses. After retiring in 1998 they moved to Carlsbad. Stella loved to dance and was known for her wonderful cooking and entertaining. She cherished her pets. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Richard Propps; second husband, Sanuel McWhorter; daughter, Carole Hunter; sons: Donald Propps, Stanley McWhorter and numerous brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children: Ramona Lentz of Ridgeland, MS, Danny Ross and wife, Tina of Las Cruces, NM, Steve Propps of Las Cruces, NM, Kenneth Propps and wife, Diana of El Paso, TX, Sandra Burnett and husband, Jack of Carlsbad, NM, Gregory Propps and wife, Violet of Bridge City, TX, Pat Manor and husband, Jack of Tucson, AZ, Larry Runyan and wife, Janie of Mansfield, TX, Karen Garcia and husband, Angel of Central Point, OR, Dana Bivens and husband, Ronnie of Deming, NM, Clay McWhorter of Deming, NM, Sammie McWhorter of Las Cruces, NM; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Butkovich of Gallup, NM several half brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
