Norman Jesse Shorty Green was born February 19, 1940 in Alamogordo, NM to Leon and Carrie (Bonnell) Green. His youth was spent in Cloudcroft in the summer and Alamogordo during winter months. Shorty graduated as the valedictorian in a class of 5 in 1957 from Cloudcroft High School. He loved playing basketball and 6-man football. After graduation, Shorty attended New Mexico State University receiving a bachelors degree in Agriculture Business Management. He was an Aggie through and through. At a dance in Alamogordo, Shorty met Sylvia Burkitt who became his wife and lifelong partner for 54 years. He was recruited to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration and worked in New Mexico for 32 years. During his working career and into retirement, Shorty never lost his passion for agriculture; his roots ran deep and he could often be found sitting a fine horse enjoying his cattle. He truly appreciated his fine horses and quality cattle. Shorty was a member of the Eddy County Sheriffs Posse and the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #1558. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; three daughters: Luhree Riggs and husband, Willie, Sherry Green and Larry Segura and Julie Wade and husband, Scott. Shorty was an inspiration to his grandchildren and sought opportunities to participate in their many events. He loved all of his grandchildren and was very proud of Caleb Wade, Zane Riggs, Dylan Riggs, Cullen Gamblin, Garrett Riggs, Lauryn Wade and Kylee Gamblin. Shorty is also survived by his two brothers: Gene and Derrell Green as well as an array of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arnold Green and sister, Frances Goss.
