Shirlie Jones Swayze

Shirlie Jones Swayze, 79, of Live Oak, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 at her home. There will be no visitation cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2013, 4:00 PM, at First Christian Church with Rev. David W. Rogers officiating. A Private interment will be in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Shirlie Jones Swayze was born January 22, 1934 in Carlsbad, NM to Sammy F. and Retha (Gossett) Jones. She graduated from Carlsbad High School. Shirlie married Robert Sheldon Swayze May 24, 1952 here in Carlsbad. Robert and Shirlie were blessed with three children and Shirlie was very involved in their many activities. After the kids were older she worked in the family business which was the radio station, KATK. Shirlie worked there from 1976 to 1990 when they sold the business and retired. Shirlie enjoyed quilting, baking and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and First Christian Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher. Shirlie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert S. Swayze; son, Dogie Swayze and brother, Lane Jones. Survivors are son, Steve Swayze of Ruidoso, NM; daughter, Donna Brown and husband, Howard of Carlsbad, NM; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters: June Howard of Carlsbad, NM and Vallee Galloway of Carlsbad, NM.
