Shirley Hargiss

Shirley Hargiss, 73, of Elgin Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 2014, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Terry McKean, Lakeview Christian Home, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Shirley Hargiss was born September 25, 1940 in Depoy, Kentucky to Paul and Geneva (Oliver) Traylor. She moved to Carlsbad with her parents as a young girl. Shirley married David Hargiss October 27, 1956. She worked as a telephone operator for many years and later for the cable company. In retirement, she enjoyed antiquing and playing bingo. Shirley struggled with cancer and arthritis during the final years of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jerry Traylor. Survivors are her husband, David Hargiss of Carlsbad, NM; son, Mike Hargiss and Calvin Radford of Los Angeles, California; daughter, Lisa Hargiss and Patty Mills of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren: Tara and Christian; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Traylor and wife, Sheryl of Carlsbad, NM and generations of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Michael Hargiss, Bill Traylor, Stephen Traylor, Calvin Radford, Alan Coor and Wayne Walterscheid. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
