Obituary
Sherry Maxwell Fabian, born August 25, 1951, passed away February 6, 2018, surrounded by her family in Carlsbad, New Mexico at Landsun Health Services Center.
Sherrill Elaine Fabian was born in Sidney, Ohio, August 25, 1951 to Robert and Patsy Maxwell. She was educated in Shelby County and Sidney City schools, graduating from Sidney High School in 1969. Sherry continued her education at the University of the Southwest and finished with a Bachelor in Business Administration, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Sherry met her husband of 48 years, Tom Fabian in 1969 at Ohio Northern University. The couple married June 13, 1970. They had two children, Elizabeth Ann Fabian (Goodin) and Bob Fabian.
Sherry and Toms careers took them to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Blacksburg, Virginia, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Baltimore, Maryland, Cincinnati, Ohio and finally Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1988 to work at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. She worked there until her retirement in 2007, where she retired as Manager of Engineering Support Services for the CCP Program. Her career with the Westinghouse Electric Corporation and successor companies began in 1981. She was rapidly recognized as a uniquely talented manager and leader. While being recognized as a technical expert she also served as an advisor and mentor to senior executives, to her peers in leadership roles, and to several generations of developing professionals. She particularly served as a role model and mentor to women in the workplace, the community, and her family.
She is survived by her husband, William Thomas Fabian of Carlsbad; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Goodin and her son, Ethan Thomas Goodin of Bowling Green, Kentucky; son Robert Thomas Fabian (Mindy) and their two children Rosalynda and Marina of Bowling Green, Kentucky; mother, Pasty Maxwell of Sidney Ohio; sisters Karen (Bruce) Dickman and Marcia (Tony) Coffield, brother-in-law Bob Fabian (Patty), sister-in-law Sarah (Eric) Sack and several nephews and nieces she loved and cared for deeply.
Sherry was preceded in death by her nephew, Christopher Coffield, Father, Robert Maxwell, and Son-in-Law, Brent Goodin.
The family thanks Dr. Leonel Limonte, the staff at the Transitional Care Unit at Carlsbad Medical Center, Landsun Health Services Center and Lakeside Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Sherry during her illness. Sherrys dear friend Lisa Watson of Carlsbad was by her side providing comfort and care throughout her illness.
Sherry fought a 25-year war with remitting relapsing Multiple Sclerosis and used every medical advancement at her disposal to fight the disease. Sherry won that war. Her death was due to a very rare disease not related to MS, and it took her from us too soon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at
