Santiago "Jimmy" Lara, 70, of West Ortega Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will be at 7:00 PM, Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Antonio "Tony" Rodriguez officiating. A Funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Friday, December 6, 2013 at Iglesia De Cristo with Antonio "Tony" Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Santiago "Jimmy" Lara was born April 10, 1943 in Carlsbad, NM to E. M. and Petra (Lopez) Lara. He was raised in Carlsbad. Jimmy married Gregoria "Goya" Martinez in 1962. He worked at the Carlsbad Fire Department and Amax Potash. Jimmy enjoyed woodwork and was an avid Denver Broncos Fan. He was a member of Iglesia de Cristo. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Tony, Pablo, Manuel and sisters: Fina and Juanita. Survivors are his wife, Goya Lara of Carlsbad, NM; three children: Alejandra Perez and husband, Joe of Kentucky, Santiago Lara, Jr. of Lovington, NM, Elauterio Lara and wife, Staci of Carlsbad, NM; 6 grandchildren: Joe John Perez and wife, Monica, Amanda Traylor and husband, Shane, Jimmy Gilbert Lara and wife, Vicki, Lydia Lara, Michael Lara, Destiney Herrera and husband, Enrique; six great-grandchildren: Jazmyn, Audrie, Nate, Nash, Analiyah, Enrique, Jr.; two brothers: Nino Lara and wife, Elena, Victor Lara; sister, Susana Venegas and husband, Remigio and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Joe Perez, Ricardo Venegas, Lydia Lara, Destiney Herrera, Michael Lara and Gilbert Lara. Honorary pallbearers are A. C. Rodriquez and LeRoy Montano.
