Sandra J. Tanner

Sandra J. Tanner, 66, of Owens Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away October 12, 2009 at her home. On Wednesday, October 14, 2009, the family will receive friends at the family home from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Sandra J. Tanner was born December 17, 1942 in Slaton, Texas to Olan and Joyce Stanley. She loved her job at Carlsbad Caverns and her "Cavern's family". Sandra enjoyed working with and meeting people from around the world that came to the Caverns. She began her career as a janitor and worked her way up to guiding tours and handing out radios and then became Fee Collection Supervisor. Sandra loved reading and crocheting. She enjoyed working in the yard and building her rock fence. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Anthony "Rusty" Tanner and brother, Sam Stanley. She is survived by her two daughters: Zanetta Harvey and husband, Jimmy of Las Cruces, NM, Julie Pettes and husband, Quintin of Carlsbad, NM; numerous grandchildren; sister, Linda Brown of North Carolina; brother, Loyd Stanley of Colorado; niece, Amanda Brown and husband, Michael Curley of North Carolina and nephew, Travis Stanley of New Jersey.
