Samuel A. Villegas

Samuel A. Villegas, 72, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by his family. Samuel was born on August 3, 1951, in Loving, NM to Federico L. and Petra (Aleman) Villegas.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home, cremation will follow. A rosary is scheduled for 9:30 AM Friday, February 23, 2024, at San Jose Catholic Church, followed by Mass of a Christian Burial at 10:00 AM with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will take place at the Loving Cemetery in Loving, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1969. Soon afterwards he married the love of his life Jolanda (Herrera) Villegas in 1970. They had four Children: Sam JR., Steve, Valerie, and Vianca. In his life, he worked at the Stevens Inn as a cook, at National Mines as a minor and Forrest Tire Bandag as a recapper for 32 years where he retired in 2011.

Samuel was a loving and faithful brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and attending church. He was a simple man with very little words but always surprised us with his great personality. Samuel enjoyed many things such as going on drives by the beach area on the weekends in Carlsbad, and going to visit family in Loving, as well as admiring his 1970 Chevy truck, and cheering on his Dallas Cowboys. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Samuel was preceded in death by his father, Federico L. Villegas; mother, Petra (Aleman) Villegas; grandson, Malachi Villegas; and three siblings: Gualberto Chacon, Manuel Villegas, and Josefa Villegas, nephews Orlando Villegas Sr and Frank V. Chacon.

Samuel is survived by his wife, Jolanda Villegas of Carlsbad, NM; four children: Samuel H. Villegas, Jr. of Carlsbad, NM; Steve A. H. Villegas of Carlsbad, NM; Valerie Sandate and husband, Lionel of Carlsbad, NM; and Vianca Villegas and fiancé, Jeremy Fuentes of Carlsbad, NM; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; three siblings: Francisco Chacon and wife, Nicolasa of Loving, NM; Tibursio Villegas and wife, Mary of Carlsbad, NM; and Pablo Villegas and wife, Elvira of Carlsbad, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
