Obituary
Sam R. Salcido, 78, of Old Cavern Highway, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his home.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM 6:00 PM, Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Monday, February 12, 2018 atSan Jose Catholic Churchwith Fr. Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Sam R. Salcido was born June 17, 1939 in Carlsbad, NM to Miguel and Lorenza (Ramirez) Salcido. He was on the Cavemen football team as a freshman the year they won state in 1956 and graduated in 1959. Sam was a golden gloves boxer and was the 1957 New Mexico middle weight champion. He moved to California, East LA in 1966 and later settled in Rialto, California. After retiring from the grocery retail business after 30 years, he returned to Carlsbad in 1998. Sam was a classic cars enthusiast and was a member of the C.A.R.S. Club. He enjoyed driving his 1955 Chevy pickup to car shows. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Juan Salcido, Pete Salcido and Rudy Salcido; sisters: Amelia Perez and Rachel Cobos. The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Services for their exceptional care that they gave Sam, especially Katie.
Sam is survived by Joan; daughter, Presila; son, Sal Rey Salcido and daughter, Jozette Salcido; grandchildren: Erica, Syreta, Joseph, Joshua and Samuel Rey; great-grandchildren: Gino, Allyssa, Krista, Anthony and Jazlynn; four-legged loyal companion, Chiquita and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Angel Campos, Mike Garcia, Ray Campos, Roy Marquez, Bobby Campos and Samuel Rey Salcido. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Campos, Mike Campos and Abel Campos.
