Ruth Loy Winters, 89, of Carlsbad, NM joined the saints in heaven passing peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 4, 2022. Visitation will be 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, April 11, 2022 at Carlsbad Cemetery with Rev. Stephanie Harmon officiating.
Ruth was a lifelong Carlsbad resident born September 23, 1932, to Adolph and Laura Kollath Heinz. Ruth graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1950. Ruth married Edward Loy September 14, 1955. After graduating high school, she had a long professional career in the banking industry, retiring as VP of the trust department at Carlsbad National Bank. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Loy; second husband, John Winters.
Survivors are her son, Steve Loy and wife, Nancy; Pam Loy Salness and husband, Rick; grandchildren: Taylor Walterscheid and husband, Matt; Kymberlee Loy and Jessica Loy; great-grandchildren: Tanner Walterscheid and Brooklyn Walterscheid; sister, Mary Pollard; nieces and nephews: Laura Padilla and husband Will, Kent Pollard and wife, Joan, Lisa Grumm and husband, Andy, Phyllys Newton and husband, Dennis and Faye Kinder and husband, Larry.
Ruthie was a faithful member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church where she served as treasurer for many years. She volunteered to keep the prayer garden beautiful taking care of her favorite flowers, roses. At home she equally cared for her gardens her entire life.
Ruthie loved sports, especially football, and attending the Cavemen football and baseball games. She was an avid bowler, winning the State of New Mexico Woman Bowler of the year in 1963. She continued bowling well into her retirement years. Ruthie enjoyed playing tennis and loved going on walks. She was seen walking in town and recognized by many.
Everyone that knew her understood she preferred to care for others before herself. An angel on earth.
