A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. October 24 at Landsun Manor Home, with Chaplain Stephanie Harmon officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Ruth was born in New York, in 1924, and attended Cornell University, where she was premed and met her husband Ted Hauser. They danced to the big bands of the time: Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. They were married in 1944, while he was in Cornell Medical School in Manhattan and Ruth was completing her courses at Hunter College, where she graduated in 1946 with a prestigious Phi Beta Kappa award. Their daughter Barbara was born in New York. After graduation and an internship in New York, they moved to Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Colorado, where Ted served in the army and their daughter Carol was born. They returned briefly to New York, but had enjoyed the Southwest, so they accepted an offer to move to Carlsbad, where Ted practiced medicine for many years in the Hauser & Flanagan medical practice, and where their daughter Joan was born. Ruth and Ted were active in the Carlsbad community, and celebrated more than 60 years of marriage. Ted was in the Elks and Ruth was in P.E.O., both were in the investment club and Ruth was a formidable duplicate bridge player, into her 90s. They traveled a lot, including piloting their own plane. Ruth received the highest score on the state aircraft instrument rating test, and enjoyed being co-pilot. She is featured as a student pilot in her daughters travel book, Never Ask Where You Are. Ruth and Ted were tennis players, golf players, bowlers, water skiers and hunters. Ted received many medical awards, including for the establishment of the first ICU (Intensive Care) and CCU (Cardiac Care) units in Carlsbad. At the end of her life, Ruths room in the ICU was next to a wall plaque and photo of Ted as the founder. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, her brother (Ralph Bowman) and a son-in-law (Jim Pomares). Survivors include: three daughters: Barbara (Douglas Cameron) of Minneapolis, MN, Carol (Steve Lilley) of Folsom, CA, and Joan (William Permenter) of Spring, TX; seven grandchildren: Jason, Stuart, David, Michael, Mariah, Lori and Traci; thirteen great-grandchildren: Jack, Lucy, Anders, Hayden, Erick, Morgan, Avery, Taylor, Quinn, Rush, Dagny Ruth, Annette, and David Douglas; and Ruths sister, Betty Bowman.
