Ruben Guerra

Obituary Ruben W. Guerra, 68, former resident of Carlsbad, NM passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2019, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Ruben was born on August 16, 1950 in Azusa, CA to Jesus and Brunhilda Guerra. After high school, Ruben joined the US Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Kathleen Burns, and got married in 1974 in Sacramento, CA. They moved to Carlsbad in 1991 and he began his 15 plus year career at WIPP as an electrical engineer. Ruben enjoyed baseball, and was a proud LA Dodgers fan. He loved his two puppies, going camping, and playing his guitar and banjo. Ruben was a kind and caring person, easy going, and would literally give you the shirt right off of his back. Ruben loved spending quality time with his friends and family. He will be missed and remembered always. Ruben was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister, Sandy Guerra; and sister, Norma Nelson. Ruben is survived by his wife, Kathy Guerra of Roswell, NM; daughter, Maureen Beene and husband, Matthew of Loving, NM; son, Robert Guerra of Roswell, NM; granddaughter, Ruby Beene; grandson, Matthew Beene; brother, John Guerra, two more brothers, and one sister; sister-in-law, Virginia Hanson and husband, Dave of CA; brother-in-law, Robert Burns of CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Honorary pallbearers are: Mike Herndon, Robert Bell, Wes Humphrey, Travis Therriault and Jay Munoz. There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Manuel Chavez officiating followed by interment at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.
