Ruben "Bear" Irizarry, Jr., 68, of Maui Court, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Good Life Assisted Living. Visitation will be 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 14, 2016, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Chaplain Andy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ruben Irizarry, Jr. was born August 7, 1948 in El Paso, Texas to Ruben Sr. and Angelina (Rey) Irizarry. He graduated from Austin High School in 1966, El Paso, TX. Ruben served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He returned to El Paso where he finished school at UTEP with a Bachelors in Accounting and Business. Ruben worked as Senior Vice President at Western Commerce Bank. He retired after 28 years. He then continued to work as a consultant with the Bank of the Southwest in Roswell. Ruben's passion was motorcycles and he loved the many trips with the "Desert Dawgs Motorcycle Riders." He was the Road Captain for the group for several years. Ruben will be greatly missed by many. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Arthur Irizarry, Peter Irizarry, and David Irizarry, and grandson Ryan Vasquez. Survivors are his wife, Emma Irizarry of Carlsbad, NM.; son: John Vasquez and partner, Lyle of Dallas, TX., daughter: Debbie Vasquez of Carlsbad, NM., son: Jimmy Vasquez and wife, Angie of Malaga, NM., grandchildren: Chanlee Vasquez, Jostyn Vasquez, and Emmy J. Walker. Brothers: Joe Irizarry and wife, Lucy of Tucson, AZ., Louie Irizarry and wife, Betty of California, Richard Irizarry of El Paso, TX., sisters: Lisa Navarro of El Paso, TX., Mariam Candelaria of El Paso, TX., Ruth Shields and husband, Jimmy of Tennessee as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
