Rosy Lee Miller

Rosy Lee Miller was born February 23, 1924 in Maryneal, Texas to Rodom P. & Willie L. (Garrett) Shaffer. She went to heaven December 21, 2013 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, December 27, 2013, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 28, 2013, 10:00 AM, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Engledow officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The Shaffer family lived and farmed in several West Texas towns, eventually settling in Big Spring where Rosy attended school and worked at several jobs. As a young woman, she moved to Carlsbad where she met and married Ray K. Miller in 1947. They raised two daughters and one son during their 46 years of marriage. Rosy was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also served as an election official on several occasions and enjoyed volunteering with the hospital auxiliary. She was once named Auxilian of the Year. One of her proudest achievements was passing the GED exam after seeing all three children graduate from Carlsbad High School. She was a superb seamstress, devoted wife and mother, amateur poet, die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, faithful Christian woman, and loyal friend. Rosy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six brothers and one sister. She is survived by daughters: Diana Donoho and husband Mike of Lovington, NM and Glenna Young and husband Donnie of Carlsbad; son Bruce Miller and wife Beth of Tulsa, OK; son-of-her-heart, Willie Smith of Carlsbad; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Scott Walters, Mark Miller, David Crow, Skipper Briggs, Gary Shaffer, Neal VanWinkle and Justin Stout. It has been said that grief is the price we pay for the privilege of loving. Rosy has been greatly loved. Indeed, she is a mosaic that God treasures. We are envious of her new life: the beginning of being with the Creator-God, seeing Him face to face, hearing His voice...walking with Jesus and our loved ones. One day we will walk there, too. Memorial contributions may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3264, Carlsbad, NM 88221, Lakeview Christian Home, 1905 W. Pierce Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220, or Gideons, International, P.O.
