Rosemary Tate Hand was born January 23, 1923 in Erath County, Texas to Everett Isom and Lily May (Horsely) Tate. Her family moved to Loop, Texas when she was 2 years old. Rose married R. C. Hand on December 13, 1941 in Seminole, Texas. Rose and R. C. were life long partners in everything they did. She followed R. C. to Biloxi, Mississippi as he went through boot camp and waited faithfully for him during his deployment in the South Pacific. After the war they came to Carlsbad to work in the potash mines and in early 1950's they opened their first business selling sewing machines and fabrics. Rose ran the business while R. C. worked at the potash mines and later they opened a 2nd business in Roswell. They sold the business in 1966 giving Rosemary time to be a stay-at-home mom, which was her true calling. She was superb seamstress, and made all her families clothing. She also loved baking and made the best homemade bread, coconut cream pies and lemon meringue pies. After R. C. was called into the ministry she was always faithfully by his side. Rose was a member of Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. C. Hand; daughter, Geraldine Simmons; great-granddaughter, Tynette Skye Mason and daughter-in-law, Linda Ray Hand.
Survivors are her children: Earnest Hand and wife, Helen of Garland, TX, Beverly Newby and husband, Larry of Granite Shouls, TX, Linda Flores of Carlsbad, NM; son, Everett Hand and wife, Jeanette of Carlsbad, NM; brother-in-law, Berwyn Hand of Carlsbad, NM; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-granddchildren.
