Ronald M. "Ron" Kivela, 79, of Muscatel Avenue, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
There will be no visitation, cremation will take place.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2011, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Cyprian Uline OFM, Conv. officiating.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Ronald M. "Ron" Kivela was born on July 6, 1932, in Laurium, Michigan, to William and Christine (Soivio) Kivela. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He was employed as a miner in the copper mines of Michigan. He and his wife, Marilyn, traveled to Carlsbad in 1960 to visit an aunt. During that visit he was hired by Duval Potash Mines and they moved here. He retired in 1994. His hobbies included fishing, tending to his horses and farm animals, and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, William Kivela; sister, Norma DuLong, and his party poodle "Fancy" in April 2010.
Survivors are his wife, Marilyn A. Kivela of Carlsbad; sister, Betty Tregembo and husband, John of Plymouth, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Gerald Rota and wife, Judy of Upper, Michigan, Robert Rota and wife, Pat of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and James Rota of Ahmeek, Michigan; sister-in-law, Gloria Peterson of Sheboygen, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
