Roger L. Logan

Roger L. Logan, 95, of Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of March 4, 2017. Roger was born May 23, 1921 in Berkeley, Illinois to Greg Ingersoll Lee and Mary Theresa (Flavin) Lee. His mother died when he was an infant and he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Hermoine Desdemona (Lee) Logan and Herbert Earl Logan, who raised him. Roger grew up in Pawnee Rock, Larned, and Hutchinson, Kansas. His family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1939. He entered the University of Colorado in Boulder at the ripe age of 20, where he met and courted Mary Edith Delaney. Roger entered into WWII in the U.S. Navy and shipped out in 1945 and served on the USS Cowpen (Carrier). He returned on leave and became engaged to Mary Edith and they were married in Glenwood Springs, Colorado in March of 1946 during his leave. They moved to Alameda, California to finish Roger's Navy career, returned to Boulder to finish his Business degree at CU on the G.I. Bill, and eventually settled in Denver, Colorado. In 1953, they became parents to a son, Brant. Roger began working for Ford Motor Company as a Field Representative and eventually moved to the Southwest - living in Carlsbad, New Mexico and then El Paso, Texas. In 1959 they became parents, once again, to a daughter, Patsy. In 1966, they returned to Carlsbad where Roger acquired Carlsbad Motor Company (Fordtown) and remained the owner until 2012, when he retired at 91 years of age. Roger was a Sigma Nu at CU and remained an active alumni, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in both El Paso and Carlsbad. Roger was a sports enthusiast - he played golf and tennis into his 60's. He also loved music, especially swing, big band and jazz. He played the saxophone in high school and on ship during WWII with the Navy. Roger also had a beautiful tenor/baritone singing voice and often sang in a barbershop quartet at Kiwanis. And those who knew Roger will always remember his whistle! He always whistled wherever he went! Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edith (whom he was married to for 51 years), two brothers: C. Guy "Joe" Lee and Thomas Lee and two sisters: Mary "Sis" (Lee) Wicke and Florence "Floss" (Lee) Freeman. Roger is survived by his children: Brant Lee Logan and wife, Mary of Dell City, Texas and Patsy Lee (Logan) Winston and husband, Greg of Mansfield, Texas and his two grandchildren: John Lee Winston and Laura Delaney Winston. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, March 16, 2017, 10:30 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 309 W. Shaw St., Carlsbad, NM with the Rev. Dr. Steven J. Voris officiating.
