Roger Dean Huser

Roger Dean Huser, I, 87, of Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Lakeview Christian Nursing Home. Roger was born on August 22, 1935, in Childress, Texas to Earl and Pearl Huser.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the Lakeview Christian Chapel with Associate Pastor Kevin Pence officiating. Interment will take place later in the day with family only.

Roger graduated Carlsbad High School in 1953. He married Sheila Hunt of Carlsbad and eventually embarked on careers affiliated with mining and construction. He became employed with Gulf Oil Corporation in the mining construction division in the 1960’s. These mining projects moved him and his family to Missouri, Minnesota, and Kansas before he left Gulf Oil to focus on commercial construction in Houston, Texas. Roger returned to Gulf Oil’s mining operations in the mid-seventies and moved to Grants, New Mexico. He was transferred to Kentucky for a brief period before returning to Grants. After once again leaving Gulf Oil, he settled in Carlsbad. Upon early retirement, Roger relocated to the Rocky Mountains west of Denver, Colorado and married Jo Anne (Haithcock) Bars of Carlsbad, and for the next twenty years enjoyed semi-retirement at Elk Falls Ranch as Fishing and Sports Manager. Upon the sale of the ranch, he made his final return to Carlsbad for his “Golden Years”. Roger enjoyed being with family and friends and was active in his church community. He often testified to God’s goodness in his life. He will be dearly missed.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Earl Huser; mother, Pearl (Cooper) Huser; and five siblings.

Roger is survived by his wife, JoAnne; seven children: Beth Bender and husband, David, of Lubbock, Texas; Roger Huser, II and wife, Kate, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Amy Gaines and husband, Les, of Grants, New Mexico; James Huser and wife, Daphne, of Shipshewana, Indiana; Ron Huser of Odessa, Texas; Bill Huser and wife, Stephanie, of Shipshewana, Indiana; and Keri Soules of Carlsbad, New Mexico; former wife, Sheila Carpenter of Lubbock, Texas; nineteen grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
