Robert "Smittie" Lynn Smith

Robert Lynn 'Smittie" Smith, Jr., 27, of Walterscheid Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, December 22, 2011, 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Land officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Robert Lynn "Smittie" Smith, Jr. was born July 19, 1984 in Houston, TX to Robert "Bob" and Raelene (Baker) Smith. He moved to Carlsbad in 1992. Robert graduated from Carlsbad High School in 2002 where he was the quad player for the CHS band. He attended NMSU-C for awhile. Robert worked at Specialized Plastics, Carlsbad RV and B & H Maintenance and Construction. He went to work for MORCO as a setup technician and transferred to Mortex in Odessa a year ago. Robert had a passion for rebuilding engines and restoring cars. He also loved animals and never turned down the opportunity to rescue a dog. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends. He was an Eagle Scout and volunteered as an assistant scout leader. Robert was a very talented artist and designed a lot of custom design work for his friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene and Lena Smith; aunt and uncle, Nancy & Charles Hefner; cousin, Lyndall Hefner. Survivors are his parents, Robert "Bob" and Raelene Smith of Carlsbad, NM; brother, Lyndall Smith of Carlsbad, NM; grandparents, Edwin and Nina Baker of Sugar Land, TX; uncles: James Baker of Sugar Land, TX, Orville E. Smith of Carlsbad, NM; uncles and Aunts: Allen and Lanise Hefner of Sanger, TX, Dale and Judy Smith of Carlsbad, NM and numerous cousins. Pallbearers will be Jason Luna, Wes Campbell, Doug Ewing, Mike Castillo, Cpt. Jeremy Hefner, Kelly Smith and Kenny Randall Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon's International, P.O.
